A. Daniyal is a writer, poet, and literary translator based in Toronto, Canada.
He writes literary fiction, poetry, and essays primarily in English, but also in Italian, French, Spanish and other languages. As a translator, he translates prose and poetry from various languages into English, French, and Italian.
He is fond of travelling, and foreign languages and literatures, and many different cultures and writing traditions have influenced his writing.
His writing explores the human condition and the zeitgeist, our place in this world and its history, but also the small frustrations like missing the last bus, and of course, the sorrows and joys of daily life, the passing of time and seasons.
He is an avid reader and book collector, and likes to read books and poets from around the world. He always reads one book from every country that he visits, and this has made him discover many hidden gems of world literature. He wishes more people did that when travelling to new places.
His favourite book ever is J. D. Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye, and he loves to read Hemingway, Calvino, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Rilke, Mary Oliver, Whitman, Camus, Sartre, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Gogol, and many, many more greats from the world canon, and hopes be influenced by their work.
He has been published in The Polyglot, The Imagist, among others. His first poetry chapbook, Clean Ponds, was released in August 2025 by Cactus Press.
He is a part of the vibrant Toronto and Montreal artistic communities, and thanks everyone for their help and companionship.
He is currently working on his first novel, reminiscing his trucking days in Canada and United States.
